Indian Walk Program Unveiled!

We invite you to
The Silk River Walk in India.
Dec 6 – 17 2017

A unique journey down the river Hooghly from Murshidabad to Kolkata.

Come for the day or participate in a unique 12-day International Residency

Join a group of contemporary artists, historians, writers and musicians from UK and India for the Silk River India Walk, where you will engage with the local artisans and community members along the way, participate in curated events comprising of talks, workshops and film screenings, share practice, create an artistic response, either individually or collectively.

Traversing the journey together from Azimganj, Murshidabad to Botanic Gardens, Kolkata, on boat, foot and by train, participants will not only find inspiration in the shared heritage and history, but also discover the unique stories that each place offers, providing a rare opportunity to explore and engage with artists and participants from the Silk River project.

Silk River Walk India – 6-17 December 2017

• 6 December: International Place-making Seminar Azimganj
• 7 December: Silk River walks begins: Azimganj to Hazarduari
• 8 December: International artists exchange workshop on board boat from Murshidabad to Krishnanagar
• 9 December: Krishnanagar visit to sculptors studios and local artists and former Indigo Estate
• 10 December: Boat to Chandannagar, exchange with lighting artists
• 11 December: Visit Chandannagar Strand boat to Barrackpore
• 12 December: Visit to Gandhi Ghat and Museum and Serampore Block Printing studios, hosted by Future Hope
• 13 December: Boat to Kolkata, visits to Kumartuli, Jorasanko and Marble Palace
• 14 December: Tour of Burrabazaar and Howrah
• 15 December: Visit to Kidderpore docks and tour of Batanagar
• 16 December: Cross river to Botanic Gardens and tour
• 17 December: Finale at Kolkata
