Silk River Talk 30th April 2017
Coinciding with the Isle of Wight Walking Festival & Richard Long’s exhibition, Ali Pretty will be speaking about ‘Silk River’, this major international walking project that connects the Thames and the Indian river Hooghly.
Ali has many connections to the island, including delivering major carnival projects there such as The Making of Mas, Yemanja and Din Shuru in 2001-3. This culminated in a group of local Island artists being taken to Kolkata, and years later this talk is a more recent look at Ali’s work out there as a walking artist.
Ali will speak on the subject of her transition from carnival to walking, the IOW carnival trail and how this has all led to the community participation projects of Thurrock 100 and Silk River. If time allows a discussion will be opened up about walking art practice.
It should be a lively, colourful and interesting evening!
