What a week; every day exploring the history and identity of a different place!

Friday 12th May saw a busy walk and workshop day in Purfleet. Two groups – including two schools, Purfleet Primary and Belmont Castle, had two different programmes. One explored RSPB and Purfleet, walking with RSPB specialist and then local historian while the other explored the creative locations on High House Production Park visiting the Back Stage Centre and the ROH Costume Department and artists at the Acme Studios. The drawing workshop in the afternoon brought 48 participants of school and community together to develop their ideas for the Silk River Banner to be created in the Artist Residencies in June.

This concluded our first week of Silk River workshops where the five locations of Kew, Tower Hamlets, Greenwich & Woolwich, Barking & Dagenham and Purfleet, brought together a total of 150 participants – walking and talking about their locations and their connections with the Indian partners in a very inspirational way.

Next week we continue with Dartford, Gravesend, Tilbury, East Tilbury and Southend. Can’t wait.
